About the Wine
The Monticelli Brothers bent the rules here a little and have created a wine with incredible complexity and rich flavor. Inspired by their great-uncle Rolando, the Rosso is made with a Cabernet base enhanced with Syrah and Merlot. Every year, half of the blend is bottled, and the other half becomes the base blend for the next bottling. This technique produces a consistent wine with fruitiness from the young wine and a smooth aged taste from the old. The Rolando Rosso is designed to drink now and pairs with a variety of foods or is delicious on its own.

Tasting Panel Notes
Tasting Panel Notes
If our panel tasting had not been a ‘blind’ tasting, I am not sure if our preconceived notions about a non-vintage (N.V.) wine would have made a difference. As in this case, all you have to do is enjoy the aromas on the nose to know right away it is a very special wine. The layers of berry flavor come shining through so beautifully that you might find yourself reaching for a straw, but the wine then settles quickly on the palate so well you just want to enjoy the ride. This was a pretty unanimous favorite wine that we’d want to drink every day.

Winemaker’s Quote:
“Characteristic of aged Napa Valley Cabernets, one notices the tobacco and earth coupled with beautiful balance of tannins and acid. It is full-bodied with plum, blueberry and cassis flavors with a silky mouth feel. The older vintages provide layers of oak, structure and backbone, while the new vintage provides fruit and vibrancy.”
               ~ Massimo Monticelli, Winemaker/Proprietor
